Description
Artichokes grow on a large, perennial plant growing to a meter in every direction. The leaves are large and ornamental and can have small thorns on the outside edges. The Imperial Star artichoke produces medium – sized, tender buds, which it produces earlier and more frequently than larger varieties.
Care:
Select a full sun or a part shade position. Plant so that the block is level with the top of the soil and water in well. Water daily for the first two weeks. Once established, artichokes have a deep tap root and only require occasional deep watering in Summer. Reasonably tolerant of poor soils, but mixing in compost when planting and occasionally top dressing with compost or a Nitrogen – rich mulch such as alfalfa will boost production.
