Spearmint is a rapidly spreading groundcover grown for it’s fragrant leaves which can be used in everything from teas to salads to roasts. The lush, lime – green leaves are attractive however it’s major contribution is the year – round perfume it adds to your garden.
Care
Plant the block level with the soil surface in shaded areas or 5cm deep in sunny positions to keep roots moist. Water daily for the first two weeks while the plant gets established.
Spearmint does require consistent watering however is otherwise an extremely hardy plant and tolerant of most soil types and of low fertility. Spearmint spreads via underground rhizomes and can become invasive both in gardens and in some bushland areas, so it is important to keep it under control. Planting in a pot is generally recommended.
