This variety has an excellent flavour very similar to sweet basil, and gorgeous red leaves that grow darker when grown in part shade.
CARE
Frost – tender, shallow – rooted annual with very limited drought tolerance. One thing itl does have in it’s favor is a resistance to waterlogging. Often described as a sun – loving herb, in most of Australia it will do best in part shade. We recommend selecting a shady position and amending the soil with compost and mulching well, or growing in a pot and watering regularly. Can grow into a large 1+meter high bush if cared for. Likes regular feeding with a Nitrogen – rich fertilizer, but consistent water in the root zone is generally the most important factor for good growth. The plant will usually die back after setting seed, so prune flowers while the weather is warm to keep it alive as long as possible. Rarely survives Winter, but you can save seed, take cuttings, or bring the plant indoors for the Winter. Seed saving is usually considered the most reliable of these methods.
