Description

Description:

A vigorous climber producing large green bean pods that can be eaten cooked or raw following beautiful bright red flowers. Generally grown on a trellis although will also run along the ground. An underrated perennial, this vigorous climber produces an underground tuber before it dies back during the colder months. The tuber is edible however if left in the ground it will regrow in Spring for years to come, hence the name seven – year bean. Pods can also be allowed to mature to produce dried bean, and seeds are a beautifully speckled purple with a mild taste and meaty texture – perfect for soups, stews and baked beans!

Care:

Requires trellising. Select a sunny position with well draining soil. Mulching is recommended to keep soil moisture consistent, however this legume will happily grow in poor soils and produce it’s own Nitrogen. Happily grows in full – sun or in part – shade. Water daily for the first two weeks. Will require consistent watering throughout the Summer growing period.
