Rhubarb is a classic perennial garden staple originating from Europe and enjoyed all over the world. With a sweet, tangy flavour, it is popularly used in pies, desserts, and preserves, as though it was a fruit and not a vegetable. The plant typically dies back to a ‘crown’ in Winter and returns bigger and better every year. Victoria is a heat – tolerant variety with green – tinged, red stalks. These plants can get gigantic once established, so plan your garden accordingly!
Care
Part shade is recommended although the plant can thrive in full sun with sufficient watering and mulching. Rhubarb is a heavy feeder and loves soil with plenty of Nitrogen. Plant so that the crown is level with the surface of the soil, and water regularly throughout the warmer parts of the year.
