Description
A native clumping perennial grass, adapted for the hot, dry conditions of inland Australia. Compact, upright growth and noninvasive roots make it an excellent border plant. Readily self seeds. tolerates mowing to a length of roughly 3 – 4 cm, making it a candidate for a ‘rough’ or ‘weedy’ lawn. foliage tends to stay quite short, particularly in sunny conditions, but flower spikes can grow as high as 40cm in favourable conditions. Seeds are a food source for native finches.
Care
Full sun or part shade. do not bury the crown of the plant when planting as this can cause rot in waterlogged conditions. Water in well and during hot weather until established. once established it will fend for itself. This clumping grass can be divided after a few years of growth, however tends to self seed regularly.
