Description

Eggplants are medium – sized bushes with grey – green fuzzy leaves and purple flowers. They fruit continuously or in multiple flushes throughout the warmer months of the year, and are perennial in climates that do not experience hard frosts.

Lebanese eggplants are a medium – sized bush that requires staking and produces long, deep purple fruits over a long season, making them ideal for the home garden.

Care

Chose a sunny position, although part shade is also tolerated, with well draining soil. Also does well in large containers provided there is good drainage. Eggplants are reasonably heavy feeders and will benefit from having compost incorporated into the soil when planting, and from regular fertilizing. Will require staking to support fruits and protect the plant from wind.

The plant will generally finish fruiting in Autumn. If growing as a perennial in warm climates, it will then benefit from being pruned and having an extra layer of mulch applied around the base of the plant to protect from heavy frost. Alternatively, plants can be overwintered indoors or in a greenhouse.
