A hardy evergreen tree that flowers through Summer and bears edible, sweet, deep purple fruit through Winter and Spring. This variety can grow up to 15 meters tall but maintains a compact shape without a sprawling canopy, making it ideal for a hedge, privacy screen, or smaller back yard. Foliage is an attractive dark green with new growth being a lime green or copper colour depending on the season. Flowers attract beneficial insects and provide food for some species of native birds.
Care:
Plant so that the soil block is level with the surface of the soil. Do not plant deep as this can result in stem rot. Water regularly until established. Will likely require watering during hot periods for the first year and may require staking in very windy areas for the first few years. Natural growth pattern is a tall, conical shape with branches starting very near the ground, however the tree can withstand fairly heavy pruning if desired.
