A hardy, delicious and perennial cousin of sweet basil, Thai basil has a similar flavour with stronger notes of aniseed. Popular in stir – fry’s and soups due to it’s stronger flavour, it can also be used in place of sweet basil to lend a refreshing twist to traditional recipes, especially when paired with strong flavours such as tomato and onion. A bush up to 1.5 meters tall with dark green leaves and attractive purple flower spikes, this perennial cultivar is loved by beneficial insects and foodies alike.
Care
Can be planted in a full sun or a part shade position, appreciates well draining soil and regular watering. Flowers can be pruned to encourage new growth or left for the insects. Frost – tender perennial that may need protection during the colder months, so plant in a container if you experience hard frosts.
