Description
Warrigal greens are a hardy edible groundcover native to the coastal regions of much of Australia, as well as New Zealand and parts of Asia and South America. This hardy groundcover has semi – succulent, edible leaves and shoots that taste similar to spinach and grow well throughout the warmer months of the year when other greens are struggling. Spreading as wide as two meters and tolerant of a wide range of conditions from full sun to part shade, this plant should be a staple of any warm – weather veggie patch. Short – live perennial that easily self – seeds. For more information on this plant, see the Australian Native Plant Society’s page.
Care
Tolerant of most soil types and full sun through to part shade. Drought resistant yet will struggle if the soil dries out fully so will require intermittent deep watering during the driest part of the year in most areas. Plant level with the soil surface and water in well, and water regularly until established.
